The REM® or Registered Environmental Manager certification from NREPSM or the National Registry of Environmental Professionals® responds to experts who need first-time certification to manage projects pertaining to environmental health and safety.
The REM® certificate helps professionals work in fields such as:
- Environmental auditing
- Hazardous materials management and transportation
- Environmental real estate assessment
The REM® Certificate is acknowledged by a variety of national agencies, such as the:
- U.S. Postal Service
- National Park Service
- U.S. Forest Service
- Resolution Trust Corporation

What kind of background and experience is necessary for REM® certification?
- A Bachelor's Degree in an environmentally-related field, for example the physical, health and biological sciences, engineering or environment and five years of work experience in environmental engineering, health, science or management
- Candidates with twelve years of work experience and no Degree may apply for this program (wherein every three years of experience counts for one year of a four-year Degree program)
CESCO, or the Certified Environmental and Safety Compliance Officer® certification is best-fit for professionals who want to be recognized for their understanding of the laws and regulations surrounding air, water, waste water pollution, solid and hazardous wastes and safety. This certification will require examination.
Who is the Certified Environmental and Safety Compliance Officer® certification for?
Professionals who seek this certification must have two years of experience working on environmental or safety responsibilities for a consultant or within the industry or military sectors.
For the CESCO certification, education cannot be a substitute for work experience. Two years of full-time employment performing environmental and/or safety responsibilities for military, a consultant or industry is necessary.
Before applying for this certification, candidates must have a minimum of HAZWOPER 40 HR training or OSHA 10/30 HR training or a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university is necessary.
Certified Refrigerant Compliance Manager certification is designed to recognize a professional’s competence for managing refrigerant compliance within an organization.
What do I need to obtain this certificate?
You will need a combination of five (5) years of education and/or related work experience in areas such as refrigeration compliance, environmental engineering, etc. Work experience is dependent upon level of education.
The purpose of the Certified Environmental Scientist certification is to credential professionals with high understanding of the basic principles of environmental science.
What do I need to obtain this certificate?
You will need a Bachelor's degree in an environmentally related discipline. Three (3) years of acceptable work experience may be substituted for each year of an academic degree program (i.e. Twelve years of work experience is equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree).
Registered Environmental Professional® (REP) Certification is a project management and coordination-based certification.
What do I need to obtain this certification?
The REP certification is meant for professionals who have a Master's Degree or a Doctoral Degree in a field related to environment. MBAs are not able to fulfill this requirement.
Work experience approval depends on education and/or professional certifications and licenses.

Candidates must fulfill the aforementioned education requirement or be already licensed as one of the following:

Associate Environmental Professional certification is an entry level program aimed at those professionals beginning their careers, as well as those professionals who may not possess a college degree.
What do I need to obtain this certificate?
You will need one (1) year in a bachelor's degree program, such as environmental engineering, health/science, environmental management or hazardous materials management. Three (3) years of acceptable work experience may be substituted for each year of an academic degree program.
