Certified Professional in Waste Management (CPWM)

CPWM - Certified Professional in Waste Management is designed to credential professionals responsible for waste minimization and pollution prevention, the voluntary standards and programs related to hazardous waste management, the management and transportation of hazardous wastes, the treatment, storage and knowledge of disposal facilities for hazardous waste and the reporting and record keeping pertaining to hazardous waste and non-hazardous solid waste. CPWM also pertains to zero waste as well as recyclables.

Education: 
Minimum of HAZWOPER 40 HR training or a Bachelor's degree from an accredited community college.
Work Experience: 
Five (5) years of work experience related to waste management, waste minimization, waste treatment and storage, waste transportation and business management of waste management facilities. Education can NOT be substituted for work experience. Please note: This requirement is in addition to the experience used in lieu of education.

National Registry of Environmental Professionals®’ CPWM certification is for those wishing to pursue a career in environmental management.

3. What prerequisites should you complete in school?

You should pursue a bachelor’s degree in an accredited community college

4. Who is eligible?

To be eligible, you must have either completed the Certificate or Diploma of Environmental Management, or have completed one year in a bachelor’s degree program in an environmental field. Five years of acceptable work experience may be substituted for each year of an academic degree program. 

5. Is work experience required to be eligible?

Five years of work experience are required to be eligible for the certification.

6. How often do I need to renew the certification?

Renewal must be done after 1 year.

7. Am I required to complete Continuing Education Units (CEU)?

Yes.

8. What are the benefits of this certification?

While employers may not require certifications for environmental professionals, earning this credential can enhance your employment opportunities. Earning a certification allows individuals to demonstrate their knowledge, experience, and education in the environmental field. 

9. Validity?

Certificate application will be valid only till one year from the date of application. Once the application is expired, candidates must apply for the application once again and pay the fees.

10. How long does it take to receive my Certificate?
